Andrea L. Smith grew up in Toledo, Ohio and moved to Katy, Texas in 1993.  After graduating from High School she attended College at Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing while serving as President of her nursing school class. 

Shortly after, she moved to Dallas, Texas where she started her career as a registered nurse at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas in the emergency room. While at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, Andrea was on numerous committees and served as a preceptor to new graduates and nursing students.  She spent four years there before deciding to travel for the next year as an emergency room travel nurse.  She first went to North Carolina to work at a level one trauma center, Carolinas Medical Center.  She had the opportunity to gain experience in adult and pediatric trauma and work beside nationally recognized emergency medicine physicians. After that she came back as a travel nurse to work again in Dallas, Texas at St. Paul Hospital and Parkland Hospital in the emergency room.  While working, Andrea was attending graduate school at Texas Woman’s University to get her Master’s of Science in Nursing.  She graduated in May 2008 and soon after got certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. 

Her first job was in Garland, Texas with a family practice physician where she worked with the indigent population.  She treated all ages with the youngest being only a couple days old.  While there she served as a sub-investigator for research studies looking at osteoporosis, diabetes, and the flu.

Now, Andrea has joined us here at Internal Medicine Associates of Plano and hopes to call this home for years to come!
